Mandarin Orange Smoothie with Cinnamon

Remember when I said that on days that hubbs goes for long runs, I like to make something extra filling and extra yummy? Yesterday was one of those days. Our evenings are booked for the rest of this week and we'll be in Michigan camping with friends this weekend, so he had to get in a long run last night. Back to camping, we had this trip planned for weeks, but now the weather forecast says it'll be rainy and cold (high 55F/low 35F). We're going anyway, but I'm happy that we're all staying in a giant house and not in tents.

Back to the food. I made dry spiced chicken, one of hubbs' favorites, and this smoothie. The smoothie was like nothing I've ever tasted before, and I'm definitely making it again. You may not need the honey and agave nectar, and could substitute one for the other. Depends on what it tastes like and what you like, really.


  • 1 8oz can mandarin orange slices (w/syrup)
  • 2 cups vanilla soy milk
  • 2 tsp agave nectar
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • few dashes cinnamon
  • ice
  • a spring of basil, for garnishing


Add all ingredients except basil to a blender and puree. Taste and adjust cinnamon/honey/agave amounts. Garnish with a sprig of basil, take pictures on a fancy cutting board to distinguish it from this pineapple smoothie, and serve.
