I just picked up appz and amma from the airport and right as we got home, my dad said "Sruth...take me to that Potbelly. I will get a veggie sandwich". Then I said "Wait I made dinner!" and appz said "I KNEW IT, I HAD A FEELING!" I can't blame him - that's what we've done every other time my parents visited because I rarely cooked. Amma was still doubtful. Appz almost guessed the exact thing I made. I made vengaya (onion) rasam, but he thought I would've made poondu (garlic) rasam. I made the onion rasam with pearl onions, and used curry leaves and tamarind paste for the first time ever - the rasam tasted more authentic with these ingredients. I'm not going to write the full recipe here because it's almost the same as the garlic rasam (at least the way I made it), but with a few minor changes. Email me if you want the full recipe! I also made the dry potato curry from a previous post. I was surprised at how well this rasam came out, but not nearly as surprised as my parents. Amma kept saying "ohhh not bad it's quite good! not bad at all!" Appz said "yes I can taste all the ingredients in here, especially the love!" = Truth :D
Special thanks to Kapoori for getting us this low-light lens for our camera - it never disappoints.
