Rava Dosa with Tomato-Bell Pepper Chutney

Now for something different - Dosa time! I love the crispy texture of rava dosa. I could eat 15 of them in one setting. I used the rava dosa mix this time because I have a packet lying around and I need to use it. However, one day very soon, I'll learn to make the rava dosa mix myself. I've heard it's quite simple.

Dosa Ingredients:

  • Rava dosa mix.
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 2 green chilis
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • Salt

Dosa Prep:

Mix dosa mix and water according to package instructions. Set aside for 5 mins. Finely chop onion, green chilis, and cilantro in food processor and add to dosa mix. Pour the dosas on a well heated skillet. I need more practice with this to get the dosa to be not too thick and not too thin.

Chutney ingredients:

  • 1.5 large tomatoes
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 green chili
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • Salt

Chutney Prep:

Heat oil in a skillet. Add chopped bell peppers, cook for 3-4 minutes, and set aside. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, coarsely chopped garlic, and green chilis to 2 tsp oil. When seeds pop add tomatoes and cilantro and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes. Puree everything together and add salt to taste. Serve dosa and chutney hot. I'm definitely making this chutney again. P.S, the liquid by the chutney is from the tomatoes, not oil; and I let the chutney sit too long before taking the picture.
